Chinese Drywall Removal

WHAT IS CHINESE DRYWALL?

Starting in 2004, defective drywall was imported from China during the peak of a construction boom. Due to the demand for drywall from natural disasters and an economic spur, the U.S. imported large quantities of drywall from China.

Virginia is one of the affected areas and due to the heat and humidity experience in the summer months the symptoms are more pronounced. Contaminated drywall will give off a rotten-egg smell that is more noticable in the summer months. There are several criteria that you can use to determine if your home has Chinese drywall in it.

  • —Your home was built or remodeled between 2001 and 2008
  • —There is a sulfur or rotten-egg smell, particularly when windows and doors are shut
  • —Residents who suffer from allergies, nose bleeds, upper-respiratory problems and other symptoms that disappear when they leave
the  homes for an extended time
  • —Air conditioning units have repeated coil corrosion
  • —Copper in the home, from the electrical ground wires to the copper coils that are in the air conditioning, turn black
